Prehistoric Cave Drawings|
Fitting I suppose, that on a page with the name this one has that the background picture
is from a cave in France dating back thousands of years. It is called the Lascaux Bulls and
the person(s) who painted it are slightly older than Hat or me being that the bulls are said to be estimated at 10,000 yrs old. In France, Spain and various parts of Europe hundreds of these caves have been discovered the best known being:Lascaux; La Marche; Chauvet Cave; Cosquer Cave; Font de Gaume, all in France. Altamira, Spain. Worldwide the number is over 350,000 different sites and the actual purpose of them is not known. The parts of the caves where some of them are located being isolated, difficult to access, and show no signs of long term habitation, so living quarters decoration would not appear to be the reason.
For larger and more images visit the sites by browsing for the cave names. One of the most recent and a lot nearer to home finds was at Creswell Crags, Nottinghamshire,at which cave etchings and bas -reliefs were discovered in 2003 :
If you stare at the last one for a few seconds you'll see a etching of a bison, them in the know are of the opinion that they were for religous or ceremonial usage but nobody except old Freddy Flintstone knows for sure.
